V House

single family house

The design of this single-family house for a young family proposes a reflection on how an apparently compact volume can be fractured, articulated, and reinterpreted through a spatial “tetris” game. The building, with a basement + ground floor + attic configuration and a total floor area of 443 sqm, develops an alternation between generous double-height spaces and more intimate, lower-ceilinged ones that mutually enhance each other. Abundant light and a sense of expansion constantly dialogue with areas of retreat, protection, and introspection, composing a complex spatial experience.
The gabled roof is set diagonally in relation to the volume of the house, generating an unexpected geometry, perceptible from almost every interior space, while also mediating the relationship with the neighboring context and the street’s topography. The roofline does not merely close the volume but structures and softens it, transforming the experience of dwelling into a sequence of surprising spatial frames.
Two vertical extensions, positioned at opposite ends, amplify the interplay between solid and airy. At the highest point of the house, the greenhouse becomes a nucleus of transparency and light, opening toward the master dressing room and bathroom – an interior garden that brings nature into the intimate proximity of living. At the opposite pole, the living room unfolds on double height, marking the affective center of the house.
The semi-buried garage takes advantage of the natural slope and hides within the vegetation, avoiding a dominant presence in relation to the house. In this way, its visibility dissolves, preserving the purity of the main volume and allowing the relationship between dwelling and garden to remain fluid and natural.
