DIAKONIA

elderly home

The project involved extending an existing building (B+GF+2F) toward the street, replacing a demolished house and completing the urban frontage in a fragmented, mixed-use area. The new volume (B+GF+3F) was articulated through stepped setbacks to ensure harmonious integration: the basement reaches the alignment, the ground and first floors align with the existing cornice, the second floor steps back from the party wall, and the third—treated as a roof volume—recedes further, matching the scale of adjacent rooftops.
The facades express the residential function through a restrained architectural language: windows are framed by plaster reveals in two textures and tones. The upper floor and roof of the existing body are clad in visible rhombic fiber cement panels, giving the volume a tactile, handcrafted quality.
Vegetation is integrated across all horizontal surfaces, including roof terraces, enhancing the microclimate and reinforcing the building’s urban yet welcoming character.
