GRUIA APARTMENT

interior design

The house is located in the Gruia district, in a quiet residential area and relatively close to the city centre. At the back of the  house is a courtyard and then a generous garden, a real hidden urban oasis. The building was built by the former owners themselves in the 1970s and was later divided into two separate apartments, one on the ground floor and one upstairs, with separate entrances.

In 2022, the new owners of the upstairs apartment decided to convert the space to serve their needs. The design solution is based on creating two different areas, one facing the street with a more open character and one more intimate and quiet, facing the garden. Towards the street, the harmonious three-leaf door, found hidden behind pieces of furniture, was restored, allowing the two rooms, the living room and the kitchen, to become a single space.  The space has thus become flexible, multifunctional, suitable for socialising with friends and family. The garden-facing area, which includes the bedroom and study, takes advantage of the privacy of these green oases.

The design aims to create minimalist geometries and a simple atmosphere with spaces dominated by natural light.

The focus is on materials, textures, warm and natural colours. The colours complement and enhance the solid wood or natural veneer surfaces. Although it is a contemporary intervention, the interior design preserves some elements and especially a certain atmosphere of the old house.
